Molly Malone, also known as Cockles and Mussels, is a song that appeared at the end of the 19th century and tells the story of a young fishmonger wheeling her barrow of cockles and mussels through the streets of Dublin. It has become the city's unofficial anthem, sung in pubs as well as in the stands at Irish rugby matches, and her statue, unveiled in 1988 in the heart of Dublin, is one of the most photographed in the capital. Its gentle, singing melody, carried by the "alive, alive, oh" refrain that returns with every verse, lends itself naturally to the piano. A ballad to keep at your fingertips for St Patrick's Day or for nostalgic evenings.
