Emmenez-moi is one of the best-known songs in Charles Aznavour's repertoire, which he recorded in 1967. It tells of a dockworker watching the cargo ships leave and dreaming of warmer countries, a longing for elsewhere that the chorus releases in a single surge. Aznavour sang it on stages all over the world until the end of his career, and it remains one of the few French songs an entire audience joins in on from the opening bars. Its fast waltz, with verses held almost under the breath before a chorus that rises and opens out, sits perfectly under the fingers on the accordion: the left hand sets the three-beat sway while the bellows carry the long build of the chorus. This level 4/5 sheet music strikes a fine balance between accessibility and technical challenge, ideal for intermediate accordionists looking to add a great classic of French chanson to their repertoire.
