Hej Sokoły is a traditional folk song of Ukrainian and Polish origin, dating back to the 19th century. This elegiac and haunting melody, sung by a Cossack bidding farewell to his beloved before going off to war, has become one of the most beloved tunes in Slavic tradition. Made famous in France thanks to the film With Fire and Sword (1999) and numerous folk covers, it captivates with its deep melancholy and instantly recognizable chorus. Its swaying rhythm and broad melodic line make it a particularly expressive piece on the accordion. This 4/5 level sheet music is a great challenge for accordionists who wish to explore the folk repertoire of Eastern Europe and embrace all the poetry of this Slavic classic.
Note for accordion sheet music only:
Our sheet music does not include fingering indications in order to suit all types of keyboards. It is compatible with all non-diatonic accordions on the right hand, whether a C system button keyboard, a piano keyboard or any other chromatic system.
For the left hand, the sheet music uses the Stradella bass system, with fundamental basses and chords grouped by button (major, minor, seventh), a standard system found on the vast majority of accordions worldwide.
